Our Recommended Books
Books on the Christian LifeWe recommend only books helpful for disciples who want their life to be completely lost to Christ's. These are not just nice books on theology or Christianity.
![]() The Myth of a Christian Nation |
Current RecommendationIn The Myth of a Christian Nation, Gregory Boyd explores the difference between the kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world. He attacks this subject from many angles with clear and straightforward arguments. His topic is not popular, but it is important. Jesus said that we are to "seek first the kingdom of God." It would be good if we knew what that kingdom is! |
![]() Sit, Walk, Stand |
General RecommendationWe recommend all Watchman Nee books. Sit, Walk, Stand is a particular favorite. Watchman Nee's focus is on Christ's life in us and on the Church (our unity). However, he is also a careful and insightful Bible teacher. Reading even one of your books will likely have you reading deeper into the Bible for the rest of your life! Fantasy BooksChildren love fantasy books, and in the western world, where disbelief in the supernatural is the order of the day, fantasy books remind us adults to dream and to believe. The books we recommend here are both clean and interesting. Note: Fantasy books inherently contain magic and violence. Here's why we recommend them anyway.
![]() Riddle-Master |
Current RecommendationThis book comes in 3 parts (the book linked to the left contains all 3). It is a delightful story, cunningly crafted, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing for over 550 of its 590 pages. Slow at parts, but less so than Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings |
Church History BooksI love church history, but I promise to recommend here only books that are easy to read and extremely interesting.
![]() Will the Real Heretics Please Stand Up |
Current RecommendationIt is really hard to beat this book as an introduction to church history. We know far more about the churches that the apostles started than most modern evangelicals know about or are willing to admit. David Bercot introduces you both to the early Christians and to the sources that can put you in the know! I would be remiss if I did not mention here that I have a web site which emphasizes church history called The Rest of the Old, Old Story. |
![]() The Secret of the Strength |
Current Recommendation 2The link to the left will get you to a spot to read this book online. If you can find a link for the paper version, please let me know! It is an extremely well-researched book, full of quotes. If you've seen modern denominations try to trace their roots through the Anabaptists, who were the only non-governmental branch of the Reformation, this book will let you know what they were really like (and end all those claims). My prayer is that you'll read this book and fall in love with those brave men, as we did. |
